  • During your first appointment your therapist with review the common aspects of receiving psychotherapy in Minnesota, to ensure you have full consent to treatment. They will also review the policy and procedures of the practice (as well as their own, as each therapist is a separate business).

You will then jump into the formal process of "getting to know you" with discussing in more detail what you are coming in to therapy for and the ways it is showing in your life and what you hope to get out of therapy, when everything is all said and done.

Your therapist will then gather more details of your family of origin, history, and other aspects of your life that may be impacting your struggles.

We understand sharing things in such detail can be awkward or scary, so our therapists move at a pace and cadence comfortable to you.

  • The average time someone spends in therapy can vary widely depending on their individual needs and goals.

Some people might find significant improvement in just a few sessions, typically around 6 to 12 weeks, especially for short-term issues.

Others might engage in therapy for several months to a year for more deep-rooted challenges. For ongoing support and complex issues, therapy can continue for several years.

Ultimately, the duration is personalized and based on your progress and the therapeutic goals you set with your therapist.

  • A "Good Faith Estimate" is a clear and straightforward document that tells you how much you can expect to pay for psychotherapy services if you're paying out of pocket. It provides an estimate of the costs for your therapy sessions so there are no surprises. This helps you plan your finances and understand the potential expenses before starting therapy.

The therapists at ISTS give clients a range of potential costs to you over a range of time, but actual cost will depend on how many sessions you and your therapist complete.
